The Cheap Ohio State Buckeyes football team is one of the many varsity sports programs of the Cheap Ohio State University that competes in the National Collegiate Athletics Association. The team is one of the most competitive teams in the league today, known for having 31 Conference Titles, 5 Wire National Titles, 7 Heisman Winners, and many more. The Cheap Ohio State Buckeyes football team started their early career in the year 1889. Since then, the Cheap Ohio State Buckeyes football has entertained millions of NCAA football fans. The Cheap Ohio State Buckeyes football is playing in the league as a part of the Division I-A of the Big Ten Conference. One of the Cheap Ohio State Buckeyes football team’s famous rivals is the team of Michigan Wolverines.

Was Ohio State looking past Illinois to Michigan? I think so. The Buckeyes dropped to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 Poll.

Michigan, which has college football's winningest program, now has to win its final 4 games-three of which are on the road, including one at Ohio State-just to be eligible to play in a 34th straight bowl game.

Ohio State's defensive statistics are better than Michigan State's through their first 7 games. The Buckeyes are 23rd nationally in rushing defense; the Spartans are 60th. Ohio State wins in passing defense, 16th to 87th; total defense, 12th to 68th, and scoring defense, 13th to 25th. The Spartans do top the Buckeyes in turnover margin, %2B10 to %2B7.

Saying I was not interested when Michigan State played Notre Dame to that famous 10-10 game in 1966 would be a lie. I will be honest with you I watched it with great interest. The real interest though was Michigan. By 1968 that kid was thinking he was Ron Johnson in the game that played out in his mind. High school memories were of Bo Schembechler coming and beating Ohio State in his first year. I had not attended a game yet at the 'Big House'. I only remember high school friends going and telling me how cool it was. Can you picture that kid knowing at that time he was missing something special.

For Ohio State, it is a critical game but a match-up the Buckeyes have won the last 6 times they have faced the Spartans. The Buckeyes won 27-13 in 2000, 33-23 in 2003, 32-19 in 2004, 35-24 in 2005, 38-7 in 2006 and 24-17 in 2007. They did not meet in 2001 and 2002. Ohio State is confident and knows how to win against Michigan State, whether at home or on the road.

Not since Nov. 14, 1959 had Michigan and Ohio State both lost the week before their annual year-end grudge match to decide the Big 10 title. This is how it is in the Big 10, tiresome and boring as in recent years it is always Ohio State or Michigan capturing the title. Other Big 10 teams compete but never seem to challenge for the title.

Saban then went to Michigan State and in five seasons turned the Spartans from a mediocre, continual late-season failure into a 9-2 season that included wins over Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State before he resigned in 1999.

The Ohio State University is a public research university that has a proud tradition of fielding a top-notch football team. The university is one of the older schools in the country and was founded in 1870 and a land-grant university after the end of the Civil War. It is a single-campus school and is the largest of its kind in the country. It is considered one of the top of the twenty public universities in the USA.

Let it be said here and now that the University of Washington Huskies are back in the hunt. If you have to ask what hunt you should not be allowed in the Stadium when they face the No. 10-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes this Saturday (9-15-07). The early line has Washington as a 4-point dog, odds even a Husky should relish. After all, Ohio State is only ranked No. 10 in the Top 25 AP Poll and Washington is not in the poll. The Buckeyes should have to win by 5 or more to cover the spread.

Michigan State's last great day in the sun and last victory Ohio State came in 1999, when the Spartans beat the Buckeyes 23-7 at home, went 10-2 on the season, and won the Citrus Bowl 37-34 over Florida.

Ohio State football had a crushing loss in the final seconds of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. The tenth ranked Buckeyes went into the game as underdogs, but were able to take a six to three lead into the half. The high powered Texas offense led by quarterback Colt McCoy took care of business in the second half. McCoy finished the game with a school-record 41 of 59 passes for 414 yards and two touchdowns, ran for a score and was picked off once.

Ohio State's only loss came on the road at Southern California, a 35-3 drubbing. Michigan State lost its opener on the road to California, 38-31, and has since reeled off 6 consecutive wins, the latest coming last Saturday on the road at Northwestern 37-20.

While the defensive statistics do favor Ohio State, one thing is for sure-this is the best Michigan State team that the Buckeyes have faced in 8 years. Normally, Michigan State would have folded its tent and gone home at this point in the season. That did not happen last year (the Spartans won their last 4 games) and it has not happened this year.

One early line on this game had Ohio State favored by 3.5 points on the road. Michigan State will probably be an underdog at home and why not? The Spartans have not been able to get it done (win) the last 6 times out against Ohio State.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes have a football team that is an intercollegiate team and is part of the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. They play at the Football Bowl Subdivision level. The team gets their nickname from the state tree of Ohio, the Buckeye. The team plays their home games in the Ohio Stadium and has done so since 1922.

But what if the culture Mark Dantonio has been preaching doesn't just arrive but sticks in the minds of the Spartans? Is it beyond reality to think that the Spartans could be 6-1 when they face Ohio State at home in 2 weeks? To do so, Michigan State must travel to unbeaten Northwestern and win this Saturday (10-11-08).

Illinois picked up 260 yards rushing against Ohio State that came into the game giving up only 65 yards on the ground per game. This was not a huge surprise as the Illini now rank 6th in rushing offense nationally, gaining 261 yards per game. In other words, Illinois was on its game and Ohio State was not.

Unfortunately for Colt, the Texans, and the rest of the country we'll never know. For Texas to have had a shot at a piece of a National Championship they would have had to blow Ohio State off of the field. The pollsters are not going to be impressed enough with a four point win against the tenth ranked team in the country who was missing its best running back for most of the second half to vote Texas into the number one slot.

Some games of interest this week include No. 12 Ohio State at No. 20 Michigan State, No. 13 LSU at unranked but dangerous South Carolina, No. 22 Vanderbilt at No. 10 Georgia (the Commodores may lose their ranking), No. 16 Kansas at No. 4 Oklahoma (beware, Jayhawks), No. 11 Missouri at No. 1 Texas, unranked Michigan at No. 3 Penn State (Joe Paterno's eyes get bigger and bigger every week, only exceeded by his appetite for victories), and Hawaii at No. 15 Boise State (could the Warriors do the impossible?).

A storied franchise with many storied victories to celebrate. It is hard to pick out the greatest moments. Most Ohio State fans show their spirit with franchised merchandise from keychains to the Ohio State NCAA cornhole set and beyond. Why not? Bucknuts are everywhere you look.

Following college football's 12th weekend of play, eight teams now become harder to ignore-Louisiana Tech, Kansas, West Virginia, Missouri, Ohio State, Arizona State, Hawaii and Boise State. All have only 1 loss except Kansas and Hawaii remain unbeaten.

Arizona State (ranked 6th by the BCS at 9-1) has the best Sagarin strength of schedule rating at 26th. LSU (ranked 1st by the BCS at 10-1) is 27th, West Virginia (ranked 3rd by the BCS at 9-1) is 42nd, Missouri (ranked 4th by the BCS at 10-1) is 47th, Ohio State (ranked 5th by the BCS at 11-1) is 53rd, and bringing up the rear is Kansas (ranked 2nd by the BCS at 11-0) at 101st among the 119 Division 1A schools.

It was in the year 1912 that Ohio State joined the Big Ten. Before that they belonged to the Ohio Athletic Conference and had won two of the OAC titles. The school has won a Big Ten championship thirty-three times. This is second most in the conference and the third most conference title of any school found in any conference. The coaches that can lay claim to leading the team to these great stats are Albert E. Hernstein, John Richards, John Wilce, Francis Schmidt, Pau Brown, Carroll Widdoes, Wes Fesler, Woody Hayes for a total of thirteen times, Earle Bruce for four times, John Cooper for three times, and Jim Tressel for a total of five times. There have been seven Ohio Buckeye players who have won the Heisman trophy. This record it tied with Notre Dame and USC for the most ever players from any school.

The Greatest Game in Ohio State Football History

Among the other top 13 ranked teams which won were No. 6 Penn State on the road over Wisconsin 48-7, No. 7 Texas Tech at home over Nebraska 37-31 in overtime, No. 8 Southern California at home 28-0 over Arizona State, No. 9 BYU at home 21-3 over New Mexico, No, 10 Georgia at home 26-14 over Tennessee, No. 12 Ohio State at home 16-2 over Purdue, and No. 14 Utah on the road 40-7 over Wyoming.

Woody Hayes took over the struggling football program's head coaching position in 1951 and his influence was immediate. Coach Hayes was a disciplinarian, the complete opposite of the easy-going Wes Fesler, the man who he took over for. His 1952 squad finished 6-3 and was victorious over arch rival Michigan for the first time in 8 years. There were a few controversies and many celebrations during Hayes' tenure at Ohio State. The Buckeyes were placed on probation for a year in 1956 due to allegations that Hayes was giving small loans to help out financially struggling players. Then there were the well-known fits of rage that coach Hayes was famous for, but no one is perfect. Luckily, Coach Hayes' pros outweighed his cons. He turned Ohio State into a college football powerhouse and won three national championships during his time at Ohio State. Coach Hayes, along with Bo Schembechler, is credited with intensifying the greatest rivalry in college football in a period called "the ten year war."

The History of Ohio State Football

Sunday night's (11-18-07) new AP Top 25 Poll showed LSU ranked 1st, Kansas 2nd, Missouri 3rd, West Virginia 4th, Ohio State 5th, Arizona State 7th, Hawaii 14th and Boise State 17th.

It looked like Ohio State was going to stop the Bowl Championship skid at two games when Buckeyes running back Dan Herron scooted fifteen yards for a touchdown that gave Ohio State a four point lead at 21-17 with two minutes and five seconds to go. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes Colt McCoy and the Longhorns had too much time left on the clock. After the Longhorns took over on their own twenty-two yard line McCoy went to work.

Purdue will have its hands full this season. Their non-conference schedule includes games against Oregon and Notre Dame. The quirky Big Ten schedule didn't give Purdue any breaks this season. They face Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Ohio State. The only ranked team from the conference they managed to avoid is Penn State.

At the halfway point in the season, most sane pundits (especially University of Michigan and Ohio State supporters) would argue that Michigan State could lose its next 6 games against 5-0 Northwestern, 5-1 Ohio State, 2-3 Michigan, 3-3 Wisconsin, 2-3 Purdue and 6-0 Penn State. Yes, they could. Anything is possible in college football, which is why college football is more exciting than pro football.

The loss by Ohio State allowed some other contenders to show off a little against much weaker competition. Here are some examples:

I seriously doubt that Kansas, Hawaii or Boise State would have the records they do if they had all played Ohio State, UCLA, Southern California, Arizona State and Oregon-all in their prime-as Washington has done.

There have been many great games played in the history of Ohio State football, so it's hard to narrow it down to just one game. With that being said, I'll give it my best shot. The Buckeyes played in what I believe is not only the best game in Ohio State history in the the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, it's also one of the best college football games of all time.

For Michigan State, it is also a critical game but so much more. It is simply the biggest game in the last 8 years. It is another opportunity for the Spartans to show they CAN beat Ohio State and break their 6-game losing streak against the Buckeyes. It is a home game for the Spartans, adding even more pressure to perform.

Ron Zook, who was drummed out as Florida's head coach after failing to duplicate Steve Spurrier's record with the Gators, regained a measure of respect by motivating his Fighting Illini to a 28-21 upset of No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Ohio State Saturday (11-10-07).

The best team in the program's history is really a matter of opinion and it's a topic that's been debated over the years. Most people believe that the 1968 team was the best in the history of Ohio State football. The 1968 team was coached by Woody Hayes and had eleven sophomores nicknamed the "Super Sophomores." What is surprising about a team with so many young players is the relative ease with which they dominated their opponents, including their biggest rival Michigan. The average score that season was 32-15. The offense not only averaged 32 points per game, but they also averaged more than 400 years per game. They were no slouches on the defensive side of the ball either. Opponents averaged just 292 yards per game. Highlights from the 1968 season include a 9-0 win over Purdue when Purdue was ranked number one nationally, a 50-14 drubbing over arch rival Michigan, and a 27-16 victory over Southern Cal which helped earn the Buckeyes their 5th national title.

Michigan State hosts Ohio State Saturday (10-18-08) in a showdown to see who will get a distinct edge in their race for the Big Ten championship. Both teams have 6-1 records and are undefeated at 3-0 in Big Ten play going into the contest at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing (MI). Ohio State is ranked No. 12 and Michigan State No. 20 in the current AP Top 25 Poll.

The victory marked the first time Illinois (8-3) had beaten a No. 1-ranked team since 1956, and the first time it had done it away from home. The loss ended Ohio State's conference and school streak of 20 consecutive Big 10 wins by the Buckeyes, who are now 10-1.

The defeat not only dampened Ohio State's dream of a national championship, it left the Buckeyes tied with Michigan for the top spot in the Big 10 as Wisconsin upset Michigan 37-21 the same day.

The Miami Hurricanes were riding an impressive 34 game win streak coming into the game and many people said it was one of the best teams ever assembled in the history of college football. Despite the fact that the Buckeyes were heavy underdogs, and nobody anywhere outside the state of Ohio gave them a chance, Ohio State showed that the whole of a team was greater than the sum of its parts. Displaying the heart of a champion, the Buckeyes pulled off an improbable upset over the mighty Miami Hurricanes 31-24 in double overtime.

Monday's (11-19-07) new BCS Standings showed LSU 1st, Kansas 2nd, West Virginia 3rd, Missouri 4th, Ohio State 5th, Arizona State 6th, Hawaii 15th and Boise State 19th.

A season earlier, MSU knocked off then No. 1 ranked Ohio State 28-24 at Ohio Stadium and routed highly-ranked Notre Dame before folding later in the season.

This may be hard to believe, but the early years of Ohio State football weren't exactly a smashing success. In fact, they were actually a series of coaches who ended up resigning in failure. The team's coaching woes became such a problem that the school earned a reputation as "the graveyard of coaches." But help was on the way. Wayne Woodrow Hayes took over the head coaching position in 1951. Coach Hayes is revered by many Ohio State fans as an icon. He's also regarded as a legend in the sport of college football. This is probably because Woody Hayes, more so than any other individual, is responsible for transforming Ohio State from "the graveyard of coaches" into a college football powerhouse. He started with a mediocre football program and turned it into one the the winningest football programs of all time.

Ohio State is known for its defensive play, partly because of Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio, who was the defensive coordinator for the Buckeyes national championship team in 2002. Dantonio helped create and sustain the defensive tradition at Ohio State and now he is doing the same thing in his second year as the head coach at MSU.

The Greatest Coach in the History of Ohio State Football

The history of Ohio State Football dates back to 1889. Little did anyone at that time know that the Buckeyes, who were named after the Buckeye tree, would eventually become one the winningest teams in college football history. In fact, just this season that program reached its 800th win. The Buckeyes are one of only a handful of teams to reach that mark. In addition, they have the sixth best winning percentage in NCAA football history at .710. The Buckeyes have six national titles and six Heisman trophy winners in the program's storied history, including the only 2-time Heisman trophy winner in college football history, Archie Griffin. Ohio State has been a member of the Big 10 conference since its inception in 1917 and has 29 Big 10 championships. The success of the team has spawned a huge merchandising franchise that includes the Ohio State NCAA cornhole set.

The Buckeyes came to play during the Fiesta Bowl and Chris "Beanie" Wells was no exception. The junior tailback ran for a very impressive one-hundred and six yards in sixteen carries before being forced to miss much of the second half with a concussion. The Buckeyes went with a two headed monster at quarterback with senior Todd Boeckman who went five for eleven for one-hundred and ten yards and a touchdown subbing in for true freshman Terrelle Pryor who threw for sixty-six yards, ran for seventy-eight, and caught a touchdown as a wide receiver. The two quarterbacks played well in tandem, but it wasn't enough to keep the Ohio State Buckeyes from dropping their third straight Bowl Championship Series Bowl game.

Ohio State went 12-0 last year before losing to Florida in the BCS National Championship Game. Five of the Buckeye starters were first round picks in the NFL draft and later four more players went in the draft. Can the Washington Huskies beat the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday? Many media types and fans were asking the same question about Syracuse and Boise State. 'Nuff said?

One of the big challenges facing Hope will be stepping up recruiting. The Boilers have ranked at or near the bottom of the Big Ten for the last few seasons in recruiting. The 2011 class is ranked last in the Big Ten. In order to rebuild, Purdue must retake the state of Indiana and prevent the likes of Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State from pulling top recruits.
